Many of you have seen Kelly Marks in the popular ‘Horsemanship Essentials’ TV series on Horse and Country TV. Others may have caught sight of Kelly featuring on ‘Countryfile’ gaining the trust of a nervous Exmoor filly foal causing her to accept her first halter. A horsewoman all her life winning championships in showjumping, racing and last year winner of the Pro-Am TREC championship at Royal Windsor Kelly’s finding the greatest pleasure now in helping students understand the principles that have made her so successful with horses.
Kelly is always at hand to help her mentor Monty Roberts on his nationwide tours but this time she’ll take the main teaching role into places where ‘Intelligent Horsemanship’, her organisation, hasn’t reached before.

“The trouble with Monty”, laughs Kelly, “is he’s so popular that we always have to go for enormous buildings with built in seating. My demonstrations are far more ‘intimate’ and it will be fun to visit these new places. At every venue I’ll be joined by IH Recommended Associates who are former students, now qualified to help horses. This means that when I leave the venue there is a reliable person to carry on to help the owner. As well as helping local owners I’ll bring a couple of my own horses to show the ‘this is one I did earlier’ as the cooks say. It’s very apt to use a cooking analogy – someone said to me once, 'You’re like the Delia Smith of horsemanship'. When I asked why they said, ‘Well you’re not sexy or exciting but it’s very easy to follow what you do!’”

Don’t miss the chance to see these entertaining and educational Masterclasses. Kelly will be joined by the local IH Recommended Associates as well as the fabulous IH Team Roadies. With the local ‘horses with problems’ there will be a strong emphasis on working with the owners of the horses to make changes. These evenings also include RA Rosie Jones and Western rider Lou Talintyre of The Mendip Stud, each with educational points to make and a star horse to show. The INTELLIGENT HORSEMANSHIP VILLAGE will include a variety of stalls giving mini lectures and demos to benefit horses and riders.

Do you have a horse suitable for any of these demonstrations?
All behaviour problems welcome! Can’t box, can’t ride, can’t shoe, can’t catch, can’t clip, difficult to mount, or maybe you’ve just got a nice youngster for starting? Please call the office or write into the address below or email us!

MONTY ROBERTS - USA
May - August 2010- Monty Roberts is Back in the USA for Several Teachable Moments

Solvang, California (April 26, 2010) – Monty Roberts has announced several upcoming clinics in California; rare appearances in the past few years. Roberts spends about 300 days per year touring worldwide to live audiences interested in his renowned concepts of gentle horse training. He has toured continually since the release of his first book The Man Who Listens to Horses, a New York Times bestseller in 1996.

Roberts has revolutionized the way many horses are trained today worldwide. His Flag Is Up Farms in Solvang, California, is a highlight in the newly published book, Stables, by Kathryn Masson from Rizzoli Press for which a book signing will be held in Santa Barbara June 11. Flag Is Up Farms is world renowned for developing and maintaining the Join-Up International teaching of force-free horse training.

On May 24-26, Roberts will teach a three day clinic, RIDING WITH RESPECT: Striving for performance from your horse through non-violent training. This is the first ridden clinic given by Roberts at Flag Is Up Farms in over 10 years. Riders from all levels will learn Monty’s perspective of understanding the horse’s generous nature. All disciplines and types of horses are attending.

Roberts has been a supporter of the nearby Light Hands Horsemanship clinic and will appear there for a demonstration on May 22 with his champion reining cow horse Nice Chrome. Roberts will be sharing the expertise that enables him to win nine world’s championships in the show ring.

In August, Roberts will personally teach and demonstrate over five intensive days with a cross section of breeds exhibiting training challenges such as bucking, bolting and biting. The August 16-20 clinic will also be held on Flag Is Up Farms in Solvang, California. Roberts holds several degrees including two doctorates in behavioral sciences. This course is offered to people from all over the world who wish to learn from a master educator.

Riding with Respect May 24-26, 2010 HOURS: 9:45 am – 5 pm each day, lunch included.

Cost for three days is $900 (plus $25/day boarding fee) to attend with your own horse (this option is now full but auditors are still being taken and new dates in August are added); or rent a horse for additional fee of $60/day. Auditing (non ridden) is $150 per day. Participants receive a free copy of From My Hands to Yours, and a one-year subscription to Equus Online University.
